Pinboard tutorial

Nou het is nu toch wel echt weer eens tijd om wat te bloggen!
Ik heb ook niet stilgezeten dus schrijfinspiratie genoeg :-)

Twee weken geleden alweer heb ik mijn (eerste) prikbord gemaakt.
Om me te laten inspireren heb ik eerst even rondgekeken naar verschillende prikborden die ik op Pinterest vond. Ik vond verschillende tutorials, maar zo eigenwijs als ik ben, deed ik het uiteindelijk toch op mijn eigen wijze ;-), maar al die tutorials hielpen me wel erg goed op weg!

Ik heb een prikbord gemaakt van 120 x 90 cm, een flinke grote dus! En ik ben er hartstikke blij mee, ik ben helemaal tevreden met het resultaat.

Two weeks ago (time flies!) I made a pinboard.
I looked up a lot of pinboards on Pinterest to get inspired to make my own. 
I found lots of tutorials, but in the end it turned out that I made it my own way. I'm just that kind of person who's always a bit headstrong. But of course all tutorials helped in a certain way and the inspiration was there! 

The pinboard I made is a big one: it measures 120 x 90 cm! It's great! In measurement and in total result! I'm really happy with it.

Well, in this blog I'll give you a little tutorial on my own.

Wat heb je nodig?

• als je inderdaad net als mij een heel groot bord wilt maken, heb je dus een flink stuk stof nodig van intotaal 142 x 102 cm (je hebt de extra stof nodig om de stof om te vouwen en aan de achterkant van het bord vast te zetten
• een stuk hardboard van 120 x 90
• een stuk softboard van 120 x 90 (of twee stukken met totale grootte van 120 x 90)
• eventueel een stuk fiberfill van 120 x 90
• houtlijm
• schilderijhaakjes  

What do you need? 

• in case you want to make a huge board like mine, you need a big piece of fabric, or a couple of little pieces to make one big piece :-) (as I did), 142 x 102 cm (you need more fabric to pin it to the back of the board)
•  a piece of hardboard (120 x 90 cm)
• a piece of softboard (120 x 90 cm)
• perhaps a piece of fiberfill (120 x 90 cm)
• (wood)glue
• hangers for the pinboard

Van start!

Zoals altijd kost het mij altijd veel tijd om de stofjes uit te zoeken en de juiste combi's te maken :-) de twijfels slaan soms helemaal toe ;-)

Ik voegde aan het einde nog biaisband toe aan de stof (kun je aan het resultaat zien)

En bij het vastzetten van de stof en het fiberfill had ik de hulp van mijn vriend, heel fijn, want zo'n groot bord is toch behoorlijk onhandelbaar in je eentje..!

And off you go!

As always it costs a lot of time to think about which fabrics I wanted to use, which one right, which one in the center, etcetera. I wanted to make a kind of patchwork, so it took a while before I was happy with everything :-).

In the end I sewed biaisband to every line of the fabric as you can see in the result.


When you have your piece of fabric ready, you have to do the following:

Maak de boards aan elkaar vast

We konden geen softboard in de juiste maat vinden, dus we moesten twee stukken softboard aan elkaar vastzetten. Het hardboard was gelukkig wel in de juiste maat te laten snijden.
We lijmden de onderdelen aan elkaar vast met houtlijm (het hardboard onder en daarboven de softboard).
We kozen ervoor het hardboard toe te voegen met name om het hardboard steviger te maken aangezien het dus uit twee delen bestond. Daarnaast is bijkomend voordeel dat het hardboard een gladde achterkant heeft en op die manier dus wat netter tegen de muur (het zachtboard laat eventueel wat achter op je muur).
Laat de delen een flinke tijd drogen (enkele uren)...

Put the pieces of board together

I had the help of my boyfriend, because the board was so big, it was just handy to have more hands to keep it well.

We couldn't find any softboard in the right size, so we had to put to pieces of softboard together.
The hardboard was in the right size.
We glued the pieces of softboard to the piece of hardboard. Why? The hardboard is smoother at the back, which may be better for your wall than placing the softboard against it. And: the hardboard makes it all just more steady. We used woodglue and let it dry for a while!

 

Plaats het fiberfill (of niet..)

Wij plaatsten een laagje fiberfill onder de stof, maar dat is niet per se nodig. Mijn advies is om het niet toe te voegen. De fiberfill zorgt ervoor dat het pinboard mooi wordt opgevuld, het maakt het net iets netter. Maar soms willen de punaises nog wel eens blijven hangen in de fiberfill en op die manier niet in het softboard blijven hangen zoals je wilt. Maar natuurlijk is het aan jou om te bepalen wat je zelf het beste vindt. We tapeten het fiberfill vast aan het hardboard met duct tape, dat werkt prima.

 

Place the fiberfill (or not..)

We placed fiberfill under the fabric, but it's not exactly necessary. My advice is to leave it. It's nice to use it because it fills up your board, makes it a bit nicer. But sometimes your pins will stick in the fiberfill and will not touch the softboard as good as you want it to. But of course: it's totally up to you and in the end it will work both ways! We taped the fiberfill to the hardboard with duct tape, that worked really good.

Plaats de stof 

Plaats de stof eerst op de groot en plaats dan het board op de stof en tape het een beetje (niet teveel, want je wilt het later kunnen herstellen als dat nodig is). Draai het bord om en je kunt zien of de stof netjes zit.
Wij plaatsten het bord vervolgens op zijn kant, zodat ik kon zien of de stof echt netjes zat. Vervolgens pasten we het geheel aan door hier en daar de stof strakker te trekken en vervolgens vast te tapen.
Zo deden we dat aan elke kant (handig is om te beginnen bij de boven of onderkant) en telkens bij het vastzetten van een andere zijkant, trokken we de boel weer even netter strak.
Het is even passen en meten, maar geloof me, het werkt :-).

Place the fabric

First place the fabric on the ground. Then place the board on the fabric and tape it a bit (not to much, you may want to change some parts later on). Turn upside down en now you can see if the fabric fits nice to the board. We placed the board with the sides on the ground, so one of use good see clearly if the fabric fitted or not. We made some changes and when we were happy with the upper side we taped it to the hardboard. 
Mind that you straighten the fabric well, pull a bit on the fabric (but of course not to much, you don't want to make the fabric loose :-)). When you've got two sides taped to the hardboard you'll be able to straighten it all better. Give it a try, you'll see, it'll work!

Place two pieces of hangers for paintings on the board and the board is ready to decorate your wall!
